Dave Tally is an award winning editor, cinematographer and Director of Photography working on short and long form projects for broadcast, features, shorts, and documentaries.  With over 30 years experience putting images on film and pushing 20 years as a Director of Photography. Dave offers a very strong background in lighting, an excellent eye for composition and detail and a knack for devising “creative solutions to technical opportunities”.

“When asked what I do, I say I am a story teller. I tell stories with cameras and light.”

Dave began his career while serving in the US  Air Force and went on to establish a studio in Japan specializing in modeling and travel before returning to his native North Carolina to launch his U.S. career as a still photographer for the prestigious Alderman Company, the world’s largest still photography studio.

“It was like walking on a set out of Hollywood, I had anything and everything I needed to create my photograph.  I learned how to light at Alderman’s.  I also learned how to work with crew and management, three indispensable qualities that have followed me though life.”

Dave went on to establish one of the top still photography studios in Dallas and it was his lighting expertise,  his imagery and camera work that launched what became an illustrious film career.

 “My first break was working with Director of Photography Jack Green, A.S.C. on the set of Love Crimes, for Miramax film.  I was a still photographer trying to get into the film business.  They needed some shots for the opening titles, macro shots of a Nikon camera.  Well I had the camera, and was willing to work for free… the rest is history.”

Dave Tally is an artist who truly enjoys creating the best for his clients.  He now resides in South Carolina and is available for assignments as his busy schedule allows.
